"I DON'T RECOMMEND
THOSE OLD STORIES TO ANYONE"
SALINGER,
J.D.
Typed
Letter Signed
TYPED LETTER by J.D.
Salinger SIGNED "JDS-" to Marie Bouman, discussing his stories. With
original letter from Bouman and original envelope from Salinger.
Marie Bouman wrote to
Salinger praising his stories and asking where she could find any of his
unpublished stories (and actually requesting copies of them from
Salinger). Salinger responds: "Yes, there are a number of
uncollected magazine stories of mine, most of them written twenty-five
or thirty years ago. As far as I knew, the more sizable libraries,
university and other, still keep them on file somewhere. That's about
all I can tell you, really. I don't recommend those old stories to
anyone." The letter is dated Dec. 17, 1975 and signed above his
typed name "JDS-".
One 8.5" x
11" page (recto only). Hanover, N.H., December 17, 1975. With original
envelope from Salinger and Bouman letter. With the usual mailing folds,
and a few stray light stains not affecting text or signature. Signed
material by the reclusive Salinger is notoriously rare.
