A true highspot of American Literature

ANDERSON, Sherwood.  Winesburg, Ohio.  New York: B.W. Huebsch, 1919. First edition, original yellow cloth; in red cloth clamshell box. First state, with "lay" in line 5, page 86, and broken type in line 3, page 251. Light sun-toning to exterior margins of front cover.  Without the extremely scarce dustjacket.  Overall a clean and attractive copy of this enormously influential collection.  $1200.

Though Anderson's output of excellent work was limited, his influence on 20th century American Literature was immense as Anderson, along with his disciples, Hemingway and Faulkner, played a crucial role in introducing a more plainspoken, naturalistic prose style in American fiction.
